FALL RISK is a series inspired by and depicting the artists personal battle with anorexia nervosa. As someone who has suffered with the disease for ten years, was hospitalized at a young age, and nearly lost her life to the disease, she is acutely aware that the ways in which society portrays eating disorders are often inaccurate and disturbing. Eating disorders are frequently romanticized, normalized and minimized; in one way or another, they are made to seem less than the dangerous disease that they are. For this series, I am asking questions such as this: how does the reality of eating disorders compare to the way they are portrayed? What mental aspects of this disease do people neglect to discuss? And what behaviors contingent on these illnesses are frequently not talk about?
